The EU has granted the highly sought-after Horizon 2020 SME Instrument Phase 2 innovation funding for the Finnish software company DB Pro. The overall funding amounts to 1.8 million Euros, and will be used to accelerate the R&D and international Go-To-Market of DB Pro’s data platform optimization solution “SQL Governor”.
The competition for the funding is fierce; on this round from over a thousand applications, the SME Instrument Phase 2 funding was granted to approximately 60 companies. Only three of those companies are Finnish – DB Pro being the only ICT company.
“The Jury valued, among others, our high motivation and skills, in addition to a clear vision. They saw that our solution can create a significant impact on the market, and that the timing for that is now appropriate. They also stated that the environmental concern is a clear added value for our proposal. It is great to see how our radical innovation gets noticed all the way on EU level”, rejoices the inventor of SQL Governor, DB Pro’s founder & CTO, Jani K. Savolainen.
With the help of SQL Governor solution organizations can eliminate unnecessary database servers so that the server platform related costs can even be halved. For example, the leading Finnish media company A-lehdet was able to achieve 47% cost savings from the license costs of their data platform. The SQL Governor solution has been already implemented in international customers as well.
“This EU funding could be compared in sports terms into the European Championships – there are companies in the competition from all over the Europe. For us, this is a significant achievement that enables the growing of our resources for both R&D and international sales. Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding over 7 years (2014 to 2020). It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.
